Hello, and welcome to 166th edition of ByteAction newsletter!
As for what has happened in the games industry recently: Former Space Ape developers have launched Offroad Games, a 10-person startup focused on car-themed titles. They're reviving Space Ape’s cancelled racer Go Race: Super Karts and working on a new unannounced IP alongside continuing work on Chrome Valley Customs and Fastlane: Road to Revenge.
In other news, Niantic has laid off 68 employees as part of a restructuring following the $3.5 billion sale of its gaming portfolio to Scopely. Scopely now owns Pokémon Go, Monster Hunter Now, and Pikmin Bloom, along with the teams working on them. Niantic will shift focus to geospatial AI under its new identity, Niantic Spatial.
Lastly, Sandbox VR have surpassed $200m in sales and is set to open more venues worldwide. It’s an exciting time for location based VR and Sandbox VR is at the forefront of it all.
