Hello, and welcome to 150th edition of ByteAction newsletter! Whoever is in Cologne this week - good luck, and enjoy it!
Last week I’d released a new podcast episode. This time with Pasqual Batalla - COO @ Sandsoft, and an ex-COO at Socialpoint studio. If you didn’t have a chance to watch it, you can do it here:
As for what had happened in the industry: Payload Studios announced that they will be laying off 25% of their staff.
In other news, Climax Studios announced that they have opened up a new studio in Scotland. The new Scottish branch in Edinburgh will offer co-development services for triple-A studios, including Microsoft and Sony.
Lastly, a new gaming studio - Soulbound secured $4 million in funding for its Web3 social gaming ecosystem. The latest funding round, completed in Q2 2024, saw participation from top gaming and blockchain communities.

Dev Talks
“I’d never made a video game before. So all of it was extremely hard. I think console development has probably been the biggest hurdle, the most challenging. When you develop on PC you can just play it as it is, in the engine. But if you want to feel how it runs on PS5, you have to go through a process. That’s a steep learning curve for someone like me. We believe that there’s a massive opportunity for this game on consoles. We see that in our metrics. Getting there was a big challenge. It’s been enjoyable, but that was definitely the hardest one.”
