Hello, and welcome to 136th edition of ByteAction newsletter!
The conference season is here and this year I’ll be attending Digital Dragons. If you happen to be in Krakow during the conference - I’d love to meet, so feel free to drop me a message on tomas@byteaction.co or reach out to me on Linkedin.
I’ve also just released another episode of ByteAction Podcast. This time I spoke to Joe Currivan - a renowned Game Producer who worked at a number of AAA studios including Bioware and Bethesda, and has most recently been working at SocialPoint studio in Barcelona. You can give it a listen here:
As for what’s been happening in the games industry - Sony reportedly established a new studio made of former Deviation Games devs, and Activision Blizzard was set to pay $23.4 million for patent infringement to Acceleration Bay.
In other news, Iconic Arts, a transmedia entertainment studio based in Los Angeles, has secured $3.1 million to craft original properties spanning games and Hollywood.
Lastly, if you’re interested in diving deeper into Helldivers 2, Sony and Steam saga this article gives you a pretty good overview of what’s been going on.

Dev Talks
Interview with Sarah Bond - XBOX Game Studios
“You know, it's always extraordinarily hard when you have to make decisions like that. I'll go back to what I was saying about the industry. And when we looked at those fundamental trends, we feel a deep responsibility to ensure that the games we make, the devices we build, the services that we offer are there through moments, even when the industry isn't growing and when you're through a time of transition. And the news we announced earlier this week is an outcome of that, and our commitment to make sure that the business is healthy for the long term.”
