Hello, and welcome to 127th edition of ByteAction newsletter!
Last week we released the third podcast episode. I spoke to Daniel Rosga where we delved into the world of game production, board games, and we also talked about running a successful Kickstarter campaign as Daniel recounted the challenges and the steps one should take in order to successfully raise money on the platform. You can give it a listen straight on Byteaction or head to Spotify. My aim is to record an episode every week, so let’s see how I get on :) If ever you are interested in being on one of the episodes - just drop an email on tomas@byteaction.co or reach out to me on Linkedin.
As for what happened in the games industry:
Deviation Games, established by Call of Duty veterans Dave Anthony and Jason Blundell in 2021, has closed. The studio had collaborated with Sony on a PlayStation-exclusive new IP.
In other news, two gaming industry veterans have joined forces to establish Simply Sweet Games, unveiling their debut title, Criss Cross Castle, at this year's Games Developer Conference. Based in British Columbia, the studio is co-founded by Tina Merry and Carina Kom.
Lastly, Capcom intends to increase the starting salary for new graduate hires in Japan by approximately 27% to attract top-tier talent.

Dev Talks
Interview with Keith Matejka and James Ryan - Thunderworks Games
“I’m always looking for opportunities to deepen the lore over here with something from over there. And it’s important to me that one game isn’t required knowledge for playing the next one. Not everyone likes dice manipulation games like Roll Player or narrative games like Roll Player Adventures, but the people who do will like those Easter eggs and connections. But at the end of the day, everybody can play one game in the world of Ulos and still have a good time. And maybe it’s a setting they’ll enjoy.”
