Hello, and welcome to the 99th edition of Byte Action newsletter!
A lot has happened in a week, and most of the focus in the games industry has been about showcases and new game announcements where XBOX Showcase, Summer Games Fest, Capcom Showcase and of course Ubisoft Forward Showcase dominated the news.
New trailer for Fable came out, and it was a very different one from what you’d normally expect, but in a good way. Seems like it’s going to be a game filled with plenty of good British humour.
Another open world Star Wars game got announced where you embark on an adventurous journey as the cunning scoundrel, Kay Vess, and her loyal companion, Nix. It’s set in the era between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Definitely excited for this one.
Also - Payday 3 and Alan Wake 2 announcements. Both have been long awaited games for me, and I’m very much looking forward to experiencing what Starbreeze and Remedy have managed to accomplish here.
In other news - Diablo 4 passed $666m in sales whilst setting a new Blizzard record. Not sure if the $666m was the exact number to beat, but it might be just a coincidence :)
Lastly, In protest of changes to Reddit’s API which included much higher costs, numerous Reddit gaming communities had staged a "blackout" by going private. The impacted subreddits include broad discussion communities such as r/gaming and r/games, as well as specialized game-focused communities like r/DestinyTheGame, r/NintendoSwitch, and others.

Interview with Kyle Rowley and Molly Maloney from Remedy Entertainment
“I mean, it’s a tight rope walk, right? We want to make sure the players end up with the minimum viable understanding and make sure that this all makes sense in a way that is meaningful. But exploration was a key pillar of this game. And that’s not only physical exploration of spaces, but it’s also, you know, if you don’t talk to Casey in that moment, you don’t necessarily get to experience that conversation later. It’s there, and if you want to avail yourself of it, you certainly can.” Molly Maloney
