Hello, and welcome to the 89th edition of Byte Action newsletter!
E3 has been cancelled, and it’s the end of an era. I saw a lot of nostalgic posts regarding the event, but this one from Dean Takahashi @ GamesBeat really stood out to me. This is a nice read that summarises all the big announcements that took place in previous E3 events and reasons why we probably won’t see another E3.
Last week we also had an official reveal of another new studio as Konami has established a large new studio in Osaka, Japan, with a "creators first" philosophy. The studio is situated in the city centre and boasts state-of-the-art technology necessary for creating high-budget games, including motion capture equipment.
In other news - Electronic Arts has joined the list of tech companies that have undergone mass layoffs. The publisher has announced a new "restructuring" that will affect around 6% of their total workforce, or over 700 employees.
Lastly, according to Eurogamer The Saudi Arabian government is reportedly planning to invest $38bn into the country's gaming industry.

“We would love to be able to grow Fortnite and the financial opportunities for all creators, to the point where if you build a really successful game, you don't have to leave and build it as a standalone game in Unreal Engine. Now, you'll be able to, and we'll support you in doing that if that's what you want. We really want the best opportunity to stay in this as we build the open metaverse together." Tim Sweeney
